Atlantis Faberge egg

This module’s objective was to design and create a Fabergé-style egg inspired by a specific style, era, or event, supported by research that informed the final design. I chose to base my egg on the lost underwater city of Atlantis, drawing inspiration from ocean mythology, marine textures, and the mystery surrounding the legend. For the treasure inside, I created a sleeping mermaid to reflect the fantasy and hidden beauty associated with Atlantis.

The shell of the egg was created using vacuum forming to produce the two main halves, with a handmade hinge allowing the egg to open and close. The exterior decoration was designed using low relief sculpting in plastiline, followed by silicone mould making and fast cast resin casting. These cast details were then shaped to fit the curved surface of the egg, creating an ornate underwater-inspired design.

The interior was lined and decorated to complement the theme, creating a setting for the sleeping mermaid inside. Instead of a traditional stand, I designed a circular “bed” for the egg to rest in, made to resemble sand on the ocean floor, helping to strengthen the underwater Atlantis theme. I also incorporated laser cutting as part of the construction process. The final piece was painted and finished to capture the magical feeling of a hidden treasure beneath the sea.
